Project Reveal: Earthy Organic Craftsman

We're excited to share our latest furnishing project: Earthy Organic Craftsman! When our clients moved from an apartment in San Francisco to this 100 year old craftsman home in Oakland, they immediately realized their existing furniture was much too small for their new family home. With a busy toddler (and baby on the way!) they knew they wanted help furnishing their home with pieces that would stand up to kiddos, so they reached out to California Daydreams.

Our clients were drawn to an earthy palette and texture, and didn't shy away from any of our bold suggestions. We appreciated their trust and we're so thrilled with the end result. Let's dive in!

The living room's original built-ins and fireplace created a beautiful foundation for the space, but the room lacked storage. With no formal entry way (or closet), and no closed storage, we knew adding storage to the space was key. Since this room doubles as the play space on the main level, toy storage was super important. We enclosed the bottom half of the bookcases with doors that match the original style to give our clients the perfect balance of decor on the top, and toy storage on the bottom. We also utilized baskets with lids for additional toy storage. We selected performance fabrics, sturdy woods, and a large round coffee table that's perfect for building train tracks.

Earthy California Casual living room

Instead of adding an end table to both ends of the sectional, we added a small cabinet between the sectional and the front door. With the addition of hooks above, this small corner of their living room doubles as an entryway - with storage for keys, backpacks, shoes, and jackets.

Due to the open floor plan and so many beautiful windows, the main level doesn't have a ton of wall space for art. We gathered their art, family photos, and an antique weather station (a family heirloom!) to create an eclectic gallery wall in the stairwell leading to the lower level. It creates such a fun statement and is totally unique to our clients.

Our clients really wanted a defined dining space, and this oversized and textured light fixture does the trick!

There were also opportunities for additional storage in their kitchen, where we added floating shelves for dishes and also a sideboard with additional shelves above to create a family "command center" where our client can pay bills and hang the kiddos' art creations. We added woven counter stools and a colorful runner to bring in additional texture and interest.

With no natural light and a very narrow footprint, the powder bath was really calling for a *wow* moment. We embraced the small space and went all in on the organic vibe of the home by adding a bold foliage wallpaper and a floating wood shelf for storage.

Finally, in the primary bedroom, our clients wanted a relaxing, garden cottage vibe where they could chill and relax after a very busy day of work and kids.

This home is full of smart storage solutions, kid-friendly furnishings and so much earthy texture. We love how the earth tones and bold choices still feel approachable and balanced - and give off that California casual vibe we're known for.
