From Commercial Space to Family Sanctuary: The Marin Family Clubhouse

Our latest project, Marin Family Clubhouse, was a unique opportunity to create a one-of-a-kind local escape. We reimagined a former commercial building into the ultimate weekend retreat for a busy Marin family. By pairing the structure's original architectural character - like exposed wood trusses and concrete floors - with family-friendly furnishings, we created a second home that is intentionally relaxed. Whether they're hosting a party to watch a big game or welcoming out of town guests for a long weekend, this home is now a definitive destination for family fun.
Here's how we transformed the commercial space into a warm, inviting family clubhouse.
The Entry + Foyer

We turned a transition point into a purposeful welcome. By adding a beautiful console with storage, hooks for jackets + bags, and a bench, the entry is now as practical as it is pretty. The foyer serves as a grounded focal point, visually connecting the home's social hubs.

The Family Room

To maximize natural light and increase the flow into the backyard, we replaced the standard doors and windows with expansive bi-fold Nano doors. Casual, kid-friendly furnishings were selected to create a cozy spot for kids to pile up for movie nights and board games.

The Game Room

What's a family clubhouse without a game room? We converted a spare bedroom into an entertainment zone. It's now fully equipped with a basketball hoop, a Polycade to play all the retro video games, and a dart board. A space just off the family room where kids can truly be kids.

The Dining Room

To go all-in on the indoor/outdoor vibe, we added tall bi-fold Nano doors to connect the dining room to the outdoors. A long light fixture now defines the space, centered over a long table built for hosting large meals.

The Living Room

This space highlights the home's commercial history, highlighting the stunning exposed wood trusses. We curated a sophisticated, neutral seating area for the adults, complete with a large TV to ensure everyone can see the big game.

The Guest Rooms

Versatility was key in the two guest rooms. We designed a kids room that feels elevated enough to serve as a guest bedroom for adults, and a bunk room for the family's girls. Desks in both rooms add extra spots to unwind or work on homework.

The Primary Bedroom

Our Marin interior design team created a serene sanctuary in the primary bedroom through soft textures and thoughtful layers. Motorized window coverings make it easy to let in light during the day and create privacy when needed.

The Pool Bath

In one of the most functional updates of the project, we converted an oversized walk-in pantry (which would not be fully utilized in a second home) into a dedicated pool bath. With plenty of hooks + storage cubbies, there's now easy bathroom access for the pool and a dedicated space to change.

The Marin Family Clubhouse was such a fun, unique project and we loved seeing the commercial space evolve into a retreat that reflects the unique needs of our clients.
