Unlocking Luxury: Transform Your Bathroom into a Spa-Like Retreat with these Three Design Tips

Bathroom remodel in Marin County

When starting a new project, we work with clients to understand their preferences, how they plan to use the spaces our Marin interior design firm is working on, and the overall feeling they want to achieve. For primary bathroom remodels, our clients almost always want to achieve the same feeling: a luxury, spa-like retreat. While there are many many design decisions that we make to achieve that feeling, our Riviera bathroom remodel in San Rafael showcases three of our favorite ways to make a primary bathroom feel luxurious.

A curbless shower (also known as a recessed shower or walk-in shower) gives the feeling of a high end spa or hotel because it's seamless with the rest of the bathroom, allowing you to walk right into the shower. This higher end look is beautiful, but it does require significantly more work to achieve so it comes with a higher construction cost.

A vanity with only drawers allows for easy access to all of your necessities and better organization than cabinets provide.

Our favorite addition to this primary bathroom is the built-in linen cabinet with a pullout hamper. If you have the space to add a built-in storage piece, towel storage + a towel hamper definitely add to the spa feeling of a bathroom.

When designing a built-in linen cabinet, we love adding shelves for decor to add some layers to the bathroom.

These three elements create a relaxing + spa-like primary bathroom that feels like a sanctuary.
