Happy Earth Day! Minimizing our impact on the planet is important to us, and that's something we think about for every project. ⁣
⁣
That often means working in existing pieces, giving new life to something existing (such as all of the kitchen cabinetry in this kitchen - which was painted/stained and updated with new hardware) and donating furnishings to our partners @makeithomebayarea. 🌎⁣

The bathrooms of our Larkspur Creek project were in good condition, but they were all the same and very builder-grade. We prioritized replacing tile, lighting, countertops and other finishes that make a big impact, and kept the existing vanities. By updating the vanities instead of replacing them, we were able to stretch the budget - and reduce waste. ⁣

Can you spot the obvious sign that this is a family home?⁣
⁣
As of team of moms, we're super passionate about designing functional family homes. The first step after your project onboarded is getting to know your family and how you live in your home. At the Kickoff Meeting we want to see how you *actually* live - the messes that are left from the morning rush out the door and all. This helps us identify problem areas so we can design custom solutions. ⁣
⁣
At our Greenbrook project, a small basketball hoop in the entry made this small area connecting the two sides of the home feel congested. Instead, we put a custom hoop on a tall wall in the playroom/family room instead - where the kids have more space to play (and there's less chance of a random ball flying into the kitchen or dining room!).⁣

This month, we're highlighting eco-conscious and sustainable design decisions that stretch budgets + are kinder to our planet. Win, win. ⁣
⁣
Up first is the shared girls' bathroom in our Sonora project, which featured a perfectly fine (but dated) vanity. (Swipe for the before!) Instead of ripping it out and starting from scratch, we gave it a whole new look with paint, hardware + new quartz countertop. ⁣

Unpopular opinion: We rarely specify a rug under dining tables. Even with a durable rug, it's just another thing to keep clean because let's be real - your kids are going to spill all over it. And even with a washable option, are you really going to go through the hassle of moving all of your furniture?⁣

Instead, we always recommend a statement light above the table to help define the dining space.⁣
⁣

Mornings always seem to be a rush to get the kids out the door, AKA morning mayhem. To reduce the chaos for this family, we made this corner of their living room much more functional. We removed the chair (which is where backpacks were previously stashed) and designed this mudroom corner with hooks for backpacks + bags and plenty of shoe storage. ⁣
⁣

That time we relocated our client's washer/dryer to turn a half bath into a full bath - adding a ton of functionality + value to the home. Now the home has a second full bathroom for their preteen daughter to get ready in the morning before school. Swipe to see the before.⁣

We're headed to Vegas on Monday for two straight days of checking out the new furniture + decor from our trusted vendors. Investing in trips to Market is something we do every year to see all of the new product in person and sit test for our clients so they can feel good about our recommendations.⁣

A week later, our hearts continue to be heavy for LA. As a business focused on home and creating personalized sanctuaries for families, it is absolutely heartbreaking to see the dreams and irreplaceable items lost. 🤍⁣

We took a pause from posting here to avoid adding noise so those impacted can connect with the many resources being posted on IG, but we're working behind the scenes to help those in need. ⁣
⁣
On that note, we have a collection of new and like-new items (pillows, runners, decor, etc) that we would love to give to someone who has lost their home in the fires. If you know someone who lost their home and has found a temporary place to live (in Marin or elsewhere) who might want the items, please send us a DM.⁣

This little desk is one of my favorite additions to our Greenbrook project. The room is large, but was previously only used as a playroom. With three school-aged boys, our clients felt like they were outgrowing their home but wanted to stay put if they could make it work. We transformed the playroom into a playroom/family room combo and added this desk in the corner as an extra homework area.⁣
⁣
Not only is the desk a beauty, it's also *super* functional with a docking drawer to charge the boys' devices and keep them out of their bedrooms, a printer cabinet, an acrylic topper for easy cleanup, and a pinboard so artwork has a home (instead of randomly being taped up on the walls - if you know, you know).⁣
⁣
